Nutrition & recovery: the basis for performing

The right nutrition speeds up your recovery and supports your training. Four practical guidelines you can apply today.

Your body does not recover in the treatment room or the gym, but in the hours afterwards. What you eat in those hours largely determines how fast that goes. Four guidelines you can apply today.

1. Protein is your building material

Muscles, tendons and other tissue recover with protein. Aim for a source of protein with every meal: eggs, fish, chicken, dairy, pulses or tofu. Spread it over the day; your body uses protein better in portions than in one big meal.

2. Recovery costs energy

Many people eat less during an injury because they move less. Understandable, but recovering actually costs energy. Eating too little slows down your recovery. Keep eating normally, with an emphasis on unprocessed products, vegetables and fruit.

3. Do not forget fluids and sleep

Fluid carries off waste products and keeps tissue supple. And most recovery takes place while you sleep. Drinking enough and seven to nine hours of sleep do more for your recovery than any supplement.

4. Supplements: only where they make sense

Nutrition comes first. Where it really adds something, targeted supplements can support your recovery and your resistance. With us that is never guesswork: where it makes sense, a blood value test at the practice shows what your body actually needs.
